Healthy Bridges, Healthy Residents: The Role of the Cape Cod Bridges in Regional Healthcare
For local health care providers, Cape Cod can be a challenging environment to meet the needs of residents, particularly given the region’s heavy reliance on the Cape Cod Bridges for general transportation, workforce, and public safety. These challenges are exacerbated by the demographics of Cape Cod as a region. While Massachusetts has a median resident age of about 40 years old, Cape Cod’s Barnstable County is home to a population where more than 40% of year-round residents are over the age of 60. The median age of the region hovers around 55. These demographics indicate many residents are aging in place, creating an increased need for localized care and services.
Episode 9 of Bridge the Gap features a discussion with Bill Bogdanovich, President and CEO of Broad Reach Healthcare, a multi-service health organization offering rehabilitation, assisted living, and hospice care. Bill discusses how Broad Reach works to meet the needs of clients with care and compassion while balancing the realities of a region where quality of life is directly tied to two automotive bridges.
In our opening segment, Luisa Paiewonsky, Executive Director of Megaprojects Delivery for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), will share updates on the Cape Cod Bridges replacement project, including what the public can expect as the state moves forward with selecting a contractor to build the new Sagamore Bridge.
